Isle of Palms

Incorporated in 1953, the Isle of Palms is a 7-mile long and 1 mile wide Atlantic barrier island. Home to approximately 5,000 permanent residents, this island paradise is located 13 miles from downtown Charleston.  From the Intracoastal Waterway, the Atlantic Ocean, the sandy beaches or the nature filled salt marshes, there is beauty at every turn.

The island offers many recreational opportunities in the form of organized sports including soccer, football, basketball, baseball and softball through the recreation department. There are playgrounds and sports fields where visitors and residents alike can enjoy tennis, shuffleboard or skateboarding or take advantage of the bike trails and sandy beaches. Home to the oceanfront Isle of Palms County Park, you have access to lifeguards, dressing rooms with shower facilities and food and beverage.

The northern end of the island is home to Wild Dunes resort.  Here you will find tennis, swimming and two 18-hole golf courses designed by Tom Fazio. Single family homes and condos are available for rent or purchase in this premier resort.
The island has convenient shopping with a grocery store and several shopping centers housing gift shops and restaurants.  It’s no wonder residents love to call the island home and visitors return year after year.
