Mount Pleasant

Originally occupied by the Sewee Indians, the first settlers arrived from England in 1680.  Since that time, Mount Pleasant has been an integral part of Charleston’s history from the Revolutionary to the Civil War.  Today, the town is considered to be one of the fastest growing municipalities in South Carolina.

Home choices range from the new neighborhoods and planned communities to the north to the beautiful established neighborhoods of the Old Village – a National Register district and the original town center.  Mount Pleasant residents enjoy a stellar location surrounded by the pristine beaches of Sullivan’s Island and the Isle of Palms, the Wando and Cooper Rivers, and multiple tidal creek and marsh areas.  The Mark Clark Expressway (I-526) leads to the Charleston International Airport (approximately a 20 minute drive) and provides direct access to I-26 which intersects with I-95, I-77, I-20, I-85 and I-40.

Looking for something to do?  Mount Pleasant offers numerous historic attractions such as the USS Yorktown, Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum, Boone Hall Plantation, the Charles Pinckney Historic site, the Old Village and the sweetgrass basket weavers.  Recreation includes Palmetto Island County Park (home of Splash Island Water Park), recreation/community center facilities, and soccer/tennis/basketball complexes.  Play the links at any of the public/private or semi-private courses in town – Charleston National Country Club, Dunes West Golf Club, Patriots Point Links or Rivertowne Country Club (Home of the Ginn Tribute). 

Enjoy great shopping at Towne Center or the many specialty stores in the area.  Choose from a variety of restaurants from fast food to casual dining to formal dining and if you like seafood, you will not find it fresher anywhere.  The Farmer’s Market operates in the Old Village from April through mid-October.

From Historic Charleston
From Meeting Street, follow the signs to Hwy 17 North. Travel North over the new Arthur Ravenel Bridge towards Georgetown.  Take a right at the first traffic light (McGrath Darby Blvd.) to reach the Mount Pleasant/Isle of Palms Visitor Center.

From Savannah, GA or Hilton Head Island, SC
Take I-95 North to SC Exit 33 (US Hwy 17 North).  Follow Hwy 17 North to Charleston and continue approximately 60 miles through Charleston and across the Arthur Ravenel Bridge towards Georgetown.  Take a right at the first traffic light (McGrath Darby Blvd.) to reach the Mount Pleasant/Isle of Palms Visitor Center.

From Charleston International Airport
Take International Boulevard to I-526 East towards I-26. Stay on I-526 for approximately 13 miles. Take the Hwy 17 South Exit towards Charleston/Savannah and travel through approximately 4 traffic lights. Take a left at the fifth traffic light onto McGrath Darby Blvd to reach the Mount Pleasant/Isle of Palms Visitor Center.

From Charlotte, NC
Take I-77 South towards Columbia, SC for approximately 100 miles. Take I-26 East towards Charleston and travel approximately 97 miles to I-526. Take I-526 East towards Mount Pleasant for approximately 10 miles. Take Hwy 17 South Exit towards Charleston/Savannah and through approximately 4 traffic lights. Take a left at the fifth traffic light onto McGrath Darby Blvd to reach the Mount Pleasant/Isle of Palms Visitor Center.

From Myrtle Beach/Georgetown, SC
Take Highway 17 South towards Charleston. Mount Pleasant is approximately 75 miles from Myrtle Beach and 50 miles from Georgetown. Follow US 17 South from the I-526 interchange for approximately 5 traffic lights. Take a left at the sixth traffic light onto McGrath Darby Blvd. to reach the Mount Pleasant/Isle of Palms Visitor Center.
